UPSC CSAT 2027 – FAQs

Yes. CSAT (General Studies Paper II) is qualifying: you must score at least 33%, which is 66 out of 200 marks. CSAT marks are not added to your Prelims merit, but if you score below 66, your GS Paper I score does not count and you cannot clear Prelims, however well you do there.

CSAT has 80 multiple-choice questions for 200 marks, to be answered in 2 hours. Each question carries 2.5 marks, and one-third of that (0.83 marks) is deducted for every wrong answer. Questions come from reading comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, and basic numeracy and data interpretation at Class X level.

The official syllabus covers comprehension; interpersonal skills including communication skills; logical reasoning and analytical ability; decision making and problem solving; general mental ability; basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude) at Class X level; and data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency) at Class X level.

In recent years the paper has become harder, especially the maths and reasoning sections, and many aspirants who focus only on GS Paper I fall short of 66 marks. Regular timed practice with full-length papers is the safest way to clear it comfortably.

Yes. The maths in CSAT is at Class X level. With concepts taught from the basics, a question bank of PYQs and weekly timed practice, aspirants from humanities and commerce backgrounds regularly clear the 33% mark.

It includes classes, handouts and home assignments, PYQ discussions, doubt sessions and a test series of sectional and full-length tests, in offline, online and recorded modes.
